Bad Aid (Screenplay)
Daniel Mwangi, a water engineer, and Simon Heslington, a cryptography graduate, create M-Pay, a revolutionary mobile payment system supporting micro-lending programmes to the unbanked. Supported by the British Government’s Department for Overseas Aid, they partner with telecoms giant Pan Telecom, only to have their technology copied and rebranded exclusively on their network.
Betrayed by broken promises and determined to right the wrong, Daniel and Simon, (with the help of Daniel’s tech-savvy daughter Kiki), hack the system, to disrupt Pan Telecom’s operations, and force them to honour their promise to make M-Pay available to all. Their struggle leads to the creation of the world’s first universally adopted mobile money service, transforming millions of lives in Africa and beyond.
